Lithium Battery Recycling Solution

 

As the popularity of electric vehicles and the use of the Lithium Battery continues with more and more people making the switch to the new normal, the volume of expired lithium batteries will gradually increase. Unlike traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries pose a significant fire risk, are more difficult to recycle and need to be handled extremely carefully by registered specialists.

Lithium battery mainly consists of shell, positive electrode, negative electrode, electrolyte and diaphragm. The positive electrode is formed by coating lithium cobaltate powder on two sides of an aluminum foil current collector through PVDF which plays a bonding role;The negative electrode structure is similar to the positive electrode and consists of carbon powder bonded to both sides of the copper foil current collector.

At present, the research on the recycling of waste lithium batteries is mainly focused on the recovery of high-value anode precious metals cobalt and lithium. Copper in the negative electrode of waste lithium battery (content up to 35%) is an important production raw material widely used.Carbon powder adhered to it can be used as

additives such as plastics and rubber. Based on the structural characteristics of lithium batteries,our company adopts an environmentally-friendly physical separation process to realize efficient separation and recovery of waste lithium batteries.

The market around the recycling of lithium-ion batteries is huge and growing, mostly thanks to electric vehicles. Surely, a lot of other lithium-ion batteries get recycled, including from phones and power tools, but the majority comes from electric vehicles.

In 2019, it was estimated that the recycling market was worth $1.5 billion. The projected amount of available lithium-ion batteries to be recycled in 2020 was 460,000 metric tons---a large amount compared with previous years. By 2025, the market for recycling is expected to grow to $12.2 billion. After that, it should remain at an estimated 8% growth rate. To put that in perspective, the world is at equilibrium with lead acid batteries - the number of batteries that get produced is the number of batteries that come back for recycling. The market grows only along with new vehicle sales, and electric vehicles are expected to take over in the coming decade.

 

Process flow

  1. The battery conveyed by belt conveyor for Preliminary crushing,then conveyed to the second crusher for get smaller particles.
  2. The particles after the second crusher conveyed to the third crusher for powder, between the second and the third crusher there is a magnetic separator for removal iron particles.
  3. Material powder state by the vacuum system into the cyclone air filter and air flow through the blower down to the air separation machine ,by the air separation machine to sorting the different densities of material stratification, and finally get the metal separation.And all non-metallic sucked into pulse dust collector by blower.
  4. The tail gas will continue to be fed by the negative pressure system to the tail gas treatment equipment for air purification, until it reaches the national emission standards and then high-altitude emissions.
